Ontario’s vaccine passport mandate went into effect last week, and between protests and mounting tensions, a behind-the-scenes fight is emerging between anti-mandate companies and those seeking to expose them.

While by no means the opening salvo in this battle, the September launch of nopasslist.ca sent a clear message to businesses, giving them the opportunity to declare their “support.” [for] freedom of choice “against public health measures in the highly politicized fight against the pandemic.

The news of this pan-Canadian list of participating companies openly defying the mandate – only available to website members – has raised concerns, especially from a citizen who took it upon herself to infiltrate this community and expose the people involved.

According to the #StopNoPassList website, the author – who asked to remain anonymous in light of growing tensions and violence in the anti-vax community – first learned of the existence of blogTO’s No Pass List.

The author of the website told blogTO: “Reading the blogTO article, I felt sick. The past 18 months have been traumatic at the best of times, and when the provincial government finally released the news of a vaccine passport in early September, I felt hope for the first time in a long time. “

“This article detailing this website dashed that hope and seemed like a slap in the face for every frontline worker, healthcare provider and every life taken from the coronavirus. “

“I remember seeing the post and sending it to my friends who live in town to warn them. But when they tried to open it it got blocked. [with access] for members only. It was on that day that I started to research how to become a member. “

After reading the message, she quickly came up with a plan and put it into action, knowing time was running out.

“In terms of the time it took me to research and plan for this, I knew it had to be quick. I signed up as a member. It was a long process as they sifted through every person trying to ‘access their list. “

There were hurdles along the way, such as multiple levels of verification by examining her email address and Facebook account, which she said was intended “to eliminate all pro-vaccine supporters.”

“I finally got accepted as a member and started going through the list and realized it was a lot bigger than I expected. At the time I had access, there were over 1,200 registered businesses in Ontario, of which approximately 80 were in Toronto. “

Alarmed by the large number of companies that had signed up for the No Pass list, she attempted to connect to several news networks, but one story never materialized.

“So I took matters into my own hands, analyzed the website data, created the map, and wrote a blog post to try out these businesses and keep my community safe.”

His data includes staggering numbers, with more than 100 companies in Toronto alone now reportedly on the more than 1,200 list in Ontario.

A custom-created Google Maps layer plots the locations on this list of participating businesses.

She had hoped to expand her map to include businesses in other cities in the Greater Toronto Area, reaching Ajax before taking a break. On resuming, she found that the website’s creators had taken down the list.

In place of the list, the creators of the website uploaded a statement.

“We are the land of the forced, the cowardly and the weak, and Canada will never get over it. Any Canadian or Canadian company in favor of vaccine passports should be ashamed and disgusted with themselves, because you will forever be on the wrong side. of history “, can we read in the press release.

The quote is also aimed a bit at companies voicing opposition to vaccine passport warrants in Ontario and other provinces before changing their tone when the systems were finally rolled out.

“This also includes the companies that were loud and proud on social media about not enforcing vaccine passports and then decided to back down when the going got tough. Yes, you are part of the problem too.”
