Temperature drop of 20 degrees Monday, October 17 in central Indiana

Monday’s highs will only be in the mid 40s under partly cloudy skies. The gusty wind from the west – up to 30 mph at times – will make it even cooler.

INDIANAPOLIS – A fine southwesterly wind in place in central Indiana today will bring a brief warming trend to the region. Look for highs in the mid 60s under mostly sunny skies. A weak, dry cold front will sweep across the state during the latter part of the day, shifting our winds to the northwest, which will set the stage for the arrival of much cooler air.

Temperatures will drop into the mid 30s overnight with mostly clear skies. Peripheral areas are likely to see frost develop.

As the winds return from the northwest, a few lake-enhanced mixed showers will be possible in northwestern portions of the state late Monday evening through Tuesday.

The coldest air from this Arctic outburst will be overnight Monday through Tuesday, with a Freeze Watch already emitted. With temperatures expected to drop into the upper 20s, we could see our first widespread hard frost, which would end the growing season.

Tuesday’s highs will again be in the mid-40s.

We will see a slight uptrend on Wednesday, with morning lows near freezing and highs in the upper 40s.

Temperatures will warm from the 40s, with highs in the mid-50s on Thursday and in the 60s on Friday.
