Shoreditch: Man crushed to death as crane drops load days before Christmas

A man has died after being crushed to death after a crane allegedly dropped his load at a construction site in east London.

Paramedics, police and firefighters rushed to an incident on East Road near Old Street around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon (Tuesday, December 21).

A man was struck by a falling object, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident allegedly took place at a construction site near the junction with Vestry Street.

Both roads were blocked and a cordon remained in place for several hours, causing significant delays.

In a statement, London firefighters said: “Firefighters have been called in to assist paramedics in an incident on East Road in Hackney.

“The brigade was called at 1:31 pm Two fire trucks from Shoreditch and Islington and a fire rescue unit from the Euston Fire Station are on scene.”

The weather police have also been approached for comment.
