Rosa Ritchie here to sit on the live blog today, keeping you up to date with what’s happening around town and across the state.

UPDATE, 12:40 p.m .: Lack of staff at Shepparton Marketplace

There are a variety of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 exhibition sites listed on Shepparton Marketplace over a number of days.

As a result, depending on when they visited the site, hundreds of staff and customers were asked to get tested, some requiring 14 days of isolation.

Today, CBA Shepparton Marketplace cannot open due to personnel issues.

If you frequent the mall, please take a good look at the current exhibition sites – see The news list here and the list of the Ministry of Health here.

UPDATE 11:50:46 new cases in Victoria area

COVID-19 Commander Jeroen Weimar said there were 46 new cases in the Victoria area.

As noted in my last update, five are in Shepparton.

Latrobe has two, Warrnambool has four, there are six in Moorabool and 12 in the Mitchell Shire.

Mr Weimar said the remaining 22 cases were scattered across the state and he did not specify those locations.

UPDATE, 11:40 a.m .: Weimar is here to break down the numbers – five new cases in Shepparton

There are five new cases in Shepparton, Mr Weimar said, two of which are already known primary close contacts of an existing case in isolation.

“We have two cases in a separate household, and we are just trying to determine exactly the route of transmission… and one case that we believe was acquired in Melbourne,” he said.

Victorian COVID-19 Commander Jeroen Weimar said the rise in numbers across the state was linked to social gatherings within households over the long weekend.

“About a third of our cases today, we think they are related to these different types of social gatherings,” he said.

That’s 500 more cases of transmission that shouldn’t have happened, according to the COVID-19 commander.

Today, six in 10 cases are from new households – as in, no households that were previously identified as part of the statewide outbreak.

Mr Weimar said Victoria would see the Burnet Institute’s worst modeling projections come true, which would be a “very serious” result.

Remember, three of Shepparton’s new cases were already reported by GV Health yesterday.

So that’s just two more cases than we expected, and if my numbers are correct, that brings the Shepparton outbreak to 12 cases in total.

UPDATE, 11:30 a.m .: Pfizer dose interval halved in state centers

Victoria now has a Pfizer supply guarantee, Andrews said, so the Pfizer interval will now be reduced from six weeks to three weeks.

Simply put, starting October 4, those eligible for Pfizer can be fully vaccinated within three weeks of their first vaccination.

The online reservation system will be updated late October 3 to reflect the new policy.

Mr Andrews said that following conversations with the Commonwealth today, the Victorian government will also redistribute unused doses of Moderna through state centers.

“It has never been easier to come and play your part to protect yourself and those you love,” Mr. Andrews said.

These changes will bring the double dose target closer to 80%, according to the premier.

UPDATE, 11:20 am Melbourne press conference

Victorian-era Premier Daniel Andrews says we have a lot to do today, so buckle up, folks.

First, Mr Andrews said the staggering increase in the number of cases today would continue as a trend if people continued to break the rules.

“Many of these cases were completely preventable,” he said.

“I know it’s frustrating, I know it’s incredibly difficult, I know it’s been literally the longest trip – but we can see the other side now, and that’s why it’s so important that we find within ourselves to do the right thing. “

Five people have died in the past 24 hours, and it is a deeply sad day for their families and communities.

There are 398 people in hospital, 83 in intensive care and 57 of them on ventilators, Andrews said.

The Prime Minister said Victorian hospitals were well stocked with necessary equipment and that the “biggest limiting factor” was fatigue.

“Nurses, doctors and ambs are tired – they are very tired,” said Andrews. “So let’s not make their jobs harder by making bad choices.”

The Victorian vaccination average is now 80.3% partially vaccinated and 49.5% fully vaccinated.

UPDATE, 10:35 a.m .: Preschool Learning Center and Pharmacy Added as Exhibit Venues

The Nido Early Learning Center in Shepparton has just been listed as a Level 1 exhibition site for two days: September 23, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and September 27, 8:50 a.m. to 5:25 p.m.

Anyone who has been to the St Georges Rd Children’s Center at these times should self-isolate for 14 days and get tested as soon as possible.

In addition, Priceline Pharmacy on Shepparton Marketplace is now a Tier 2 site for the period 3:44 – 4:25 p.m. on September 28.

UPDATE, 10 a.m .: A tour through the headlines

Let’s take a look at what’s in the news, ahead of the Melbourne press conference which is bound to be important today.

Not surprisingly (sadly), police intervened with a number of dangerous drivers in Greater Shepparton over the long weekend. Four vehicles were impounded, among a number of other incidents. Monique Preston has the details.

In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Australia’s death toll actually declined in 2020, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Darren Linton delves into those statistics here.

And I had the pleasure of learning more about how companies in Shepparton are leveraging Tik Tok as a marketing tool. Find out how Horseland and Pizza Place are driving sales with this free and fun tool.

UPDATE, 9:25 a.m .: Community answers call to get tested

The Greater Shepparton community is heading in large numbers for COVID-19 testing today.

A man queuing at GV Health’s Graham St walk-in site said The news he joined the queue at 8:15 am and estimated the wait time could be an hour or two.

He said he watched around 40 people decide not to join the line when they saw its length.

I am optimistic they were getting back into their cars and heading to the Shepparton Showgrounds drive-thru site.

The queue at the exhibition grounds is large, spanning the perimeter, but still nowhere near as busy as it was during the peak of the last outbreak.

If you need a test today, don’t be put off by the queues. It’s imperative, as GV Health CEO Matt Sharp said yesterday, that anyone with symptoms is tested as soon as possible.

UPDATE, 8:45 a.m .: Victoria registers a whopping 1,438 new cases of COVID-19

This morning, the Department of Health announced 1,438 new local cases of COVID-19 and, very sadly, the deaths of five people infected with the virus.

This is a big increase from yesterday’s figure, which was less than 1,000, bringing the total number of active cases in Victoria to 11,018.

No information has yet been provided regarding the number of today’s cases that are linked and the number of mystery cases.

Yesterday 34,323 doses of vaccine were administered and a staggering 65,497 test results were received.

UPDATE, 8:40 a.m .: Shepparton exhibition sites added

The list of Shepparton exposure sites linked to the current outbreak is growing.

Last night, Woolworths Shepparton Market Place was officially listed by the Department of Health as a Level 2 exhibit site for the 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. period on September 26.

Meanwhile, the entire Shepparton Market Place complex has been listed as a Level 2 site between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. for the same day, September 26.

Shepparton Market Place is a Tier 3 site for a number of other dates – see The news list here and the list of the Ministry of Health here.

UPDATE, 8:20 a.m .: Shepparton cluster has grown to 10 cases, three of which will be part of today’s official figures

According to the latest information available, Shepparton’s new outbreak consists of 10 active cases.

Yesterday, GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said at least three cases of COVID-19 had been found in Shepparton and would be included in today’s official figures.

Two of the three cases mentioned yesterday were linked to earlier cases, and one was still under investigation.

The first seven cases identified during this epidemic are linked to four households.

Mr Sharp said some of the cases came from people “traveling across borders they should not have had”.

Keep your eyes peeled for exhibition venues, there will be more in the next few days.

Mr Sharp urged anyone with even the slightest symptom to get tested – he said many people waited three or four days with symptoms before showing up.
