Charity appeal to support Jodeyne, wife of DOI star Sean Rice, reaches £12,000

The Canadian ice skater – who competed in the ITV skating competition from 2011 to 2012 as a professional teacher – tragically died last Friday.

A friend organized a fundraiser to help Sean’s wife, Jodeyne Higgins, with whom he won bronze at the Canadian pairs championships, and his daughter Signey.

The emotional description on the page on GoFundMe describes the late skater as “a great man, coach, son, friend, husband and a popa bear.”

“A coach, a son, a friend, a husband and a daddy bear. It is with immense sadness to say that Sean Rice has passed away,” said close friend Mary White.

“Sean was a passionate, larger than life man who stopped and gave to all who needed him. It is in the same spirit that we reach out to everyone to pour prayers and l love on Jodeyne and Signey during this very difficult time.

“So many people have asked how they can help and so we have created this fund account to support Jodeyne and Signey at this time.

“Let’s take care of them the way Sean has always taken care of others.”

Within hours dozens of supporters had taken part – raising more than £12,000 of the £18,300 goal for the family.
