A settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre remains an option for Prince Andrew if a judge decides the case should go to trial – although reports suggest Ms Giuffre may prefer a trial to send the message that no one is au- above the laws.
The news comes as the final hearing in the case between Ms Giuffre and the Duke of York was called a “horrible day” for the Duke by legal and royal experts.
The judge overseeing Prince Andrew’s proposal to dismiss a lawsuit against Ms Giuffre has vowed to deliver a ruling “very soon” after a stormy hearing on Tuesday.
Mitchell Epner, a former U.S. federal prosecutor, said the case would not be closed following the court hearing led by Judge Lewis Kaplan and insisted the Duke must settle, default or seize the tribunal.
During Tuesday’s hearing, lawyers for Prince Andrew argued that the 2009 agreement signed by Epstein and Ms Giuffre protects the Duke of York and should be grounds for dismissing his pending action against him.
The Duke is said to ‘rush’ the sale of his chalet in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier to cover his growing legal bills, and a report says his ex-wife Sarah, the Duchess of York, is actively part of his defense team .

Sarah Ferguson “is part of the defense team”, report says
A high-ranking royal source has revealed that Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is a key member of his legal defense team, according to a report.
The New York Post quotes the source as saying: “No one inside Buckingham Palace has been involved in Prince Andrew’s affair, or even knows much.”
“It’s really just the Duke of York, Fergie and his lawyers,” they add.
Another source said Sarah, the Duchess of York, who divorced Prince Andrew in 1996, is so supportive that she met him and his legal team in strategy sessions.
She was reportedly with the Duke when he met his lawyer Andrew Brettler in the summer of 2021.
The couple live together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, and the Duchess was seen in Verbier, Switzerland last weekend with their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, along with their respective husbands and children.
The Duke is currently selling his chalet in the Swiss ski resort, apparently to cover legal costs.
