WHITE WATER, Wisconsin – The Gustavus women’s tennis team began competition at the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday.
After two days of play Simona Potockova (Sr., Nova’Dubnica, Slovakia) is still alive in the singles draw and has reached the quarter-finals. Potockova progressed with wins of 6-1, 7-6 over Sophia De Los Reyes de Grinnell; 6-1, 6-0 against Ashley Samuta of Concordia-Wisconsin; and 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 against Gianna Nikoleit of UW-Whitewater.

In the doubles draw, teams Gustie de Potockova / Oda and Rosentreter / Hernandez advanced to the quarter-finals, but both lost in an attempt to advance to the semi-finals. Potockova and Oda beat Simpson’s Wanek / King 8-2 and Edgewood’s Carew / Murphy 8-2, before falling to UW-Whitewater’s Bruno and Lee 8-3. Rosentreter and Hernandez beat Weddle / Orvis of Northwestern 8-3, Kraft / Ha of UW-Whitewater 8-4 and Gaedtke / Labelle of Carroll 8-5, before losing to Dorr / Walker of St. Kate’s 8-3.
The game resumes Sunday.
