It’s clear that Patrick Williams is no longer needed as Javonte Green and Alize Johnson move up on the All (preseason) -NBA rosters, but that’s good news for the depth of the squad!

Head coach Billy Donovan said Williams competed in 5-on-5 drills, whereas previously he was limited to individual work. The team will be monitoring Williams’ body reaction throughout the week before making a final decision on his status for Friday’s preseason final against the Memphis Grizzlies.

As noted in that report, “Williams was initially facing a four to six week recovery period when he was injured on September 15,” and such a quick comeback would put him in the early part of that schedule.

So that’s great news, as the Bulls don’t start the regular season until the 20th, but it would only help to practice and spend some pre-season time with Williams alongside the starters.

In less optimistic news, the Bulls’ other rotational contributor, Coby White, appears to be failing such an accelerated recovery from his shoulder injury and will likely miss several weeks of regular season games:

In other more minor news:

  • Tony Bradley, who also did not take part in a pre-season match, also practiced this week.
  • The Bulls have added a training camp to cut player this week to Bryce Alford, son of the all-time asshole Steve who coached Bryce (and Zach LaVine) at UCLA. Interestingly, Bryce Alford hasn’t made it to the Summer League or a training camp this year, playing abroad after never making the big Oklahoma City squad.

  • The Bulls’ roster currently stands at 19, as Alford’s signing was after dropping Ethan Thompson and Daniel Oturu earlier this week. The roster must be reduced to 15 (plus 2 in both directions) before the start of the regular season.
