Max Stainkamph here to update you on what’s now our … eighth? lockdown .. I know the new coronavirus is the last thing everyone wants to think about today, so we’re going to try to keep it on point with what you need to know.

As usual, check back here throughout the day and we’ll bring you the exhibit sites, case numbers and more.

UPDATE, 2:40 p.m .: Matt Sharp press conference complete conclusion, hope for treatments

Here’s the full rundown from Matt Sharp’s press conference, if you feel like it.

He also spoke about today’s case in Campaspe and said he was linked to Shepparton.

Plus, something I didn’t have time to relate this morning due to too many things going on at the same time, a new pill being developed in Europe could cut the risk of coronavirus death by half.

A new COVID-19 pill cuts the risk of death or hospitalization in half, says drugmaker Merck.

Merck plans to submit data on the antiviral drug to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the coming days. If they make a favorable decision in the next few weeks, the pill could be dispensed soon after.

Check out the full story here.

UPDATE, 2:00 p.m .: Most transmissions are from family contacts

I returned. I’ll write the whole press conference in just a moment, but the main takeaway from GV Health CEO Matt Sharp’s conference was that home transmission is the main factor fueling the latest outbreak.

He urged people not to visit other people’s homes unless it is for one of the approved reasons.

This helps to explain why we have had an increasing number of cases but (comparatively) very few exposure sites.

The epidemic affects 16 households, six of which are linked. There are five people at Shepparton Hospital with coronavirus.

  • He said people traveling to and from Melbourne were helping spread the virus, as well as people visiting other households in Shepparton
  • There are 400 contacts of people who test positive
  • He said people should take care of their sanity and well-being during the lockdown, and urged people to reach out if they are struggling

UPDATE, 12:55 p.m .: No new exhibition sites at this time

Shepparton and Mooroopna have yet to secure any new exhibit sites today, as test lines were quite short earlier today.

Sports editor Tyler Maher told me the line was around 10 cars a few hours ago, and please – if you have any symptoms – show up and get tested. . It takes very little time and you should have your results within 24 hours.

I’m about to dodge a press conference with GV Health CEO Matt Sharp, so the news blog will be unstaffed for a little while. I’ll bring you the later as soon as I can.

UPDATE, 12:15 p.m.: Changes to Day 13 Tests, Pallas Launches Broadband to Federal Government

The isolation orders have been changed to a 14-day quarantine, which is very good news. Now, for people on level 1 sites, once you test negative from your day 13 test, you can exit quarantine as soon as you receive this message.

Previously, you had to wait to be contacted by the Ministry of Health to be released from solitary confinement.

And, I glossed over it earlier because what we really want are the details of Shepparton (they’re below if you haven’t read them already) but it’s worth a mention though. may yours be really, very, very tired of the political element of this pandemic.

Victorian-era treasurer Tim Pallas said he was “very, very unhappy” today, berating the federal government’s refusal to co-fund new business support programs for the construction industry.

He announced a nearly $ 200 million support program for construction companies, but said it could have been doubled if the federal government had backed the program.

It appears the funding will apply to businesses that have been shut down in the past two weeks. I don’t know if that means many businesses in Goulburn Valley, or none, will qualify. I’m hoping to find some time this afternoon to sit down and look at both that and the broad immunization mandate that was announced yesterday.

The ACT has also registered 52 new cases of coronavirus.

UPDATE, 11:55 a.m .: Breakdown of government cases

There are 10 new cases of the coronavirus in Shepparton in today’s figures, bringing the number of active cases in the city to 34.

Six of today’s cases are linked and concern four households. Some of these cases attended a grand final party attended by 17 people.

Victorian coronavirus response commander Jeroen Weimar said there had been a “really tough call” to lock down the city and he apologized for the decision.

“We made the decision based on late information.”

There are 71 new cases in the Victoria area. He said there were 95 active cases in the Mitchell Shire.

Mr Weimar said there was “a bit of work to do” for the Shepparton contact tracing team.

Mr Weimar said the map of positive cases was becoming “more blurry” in Melbourne and the Victoria area.

More cases are detected in the south-eastern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

UPDATE, 11:35 a.m .: Pallas addresses lockdown at Shepparton

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas admitted the blow to Shepparton during the town lockdown, which was announced last night.

“The public health team made the difficult decision to shut down Shepparton and I want to recognize that it will be a huge blow to the community, especially after their efforts during the last lockdown,” Mr. Pallas said.

He said the people of Shepparton were “stubborn” and “resilient,” referring to the city’s handling of its latest outbreak, but urged people to come forward and get tested.

“If you are in Shepparton and have symptoms or have been contacted, show up and get tested,” Pallas said.

There are more than 11,000 active cases in Victoria, with two deaths in the past 24 hours – a man in his 60s from Hume and a man in his 60s from the Mornington Peninsula.

There are 429 people hospitalized, 97 in intensive care and 54 on ventilators. Of those hospitalized, 73.5% were not vaccinated and only 5% were fully vaccinated.

UPDATE, 11:00 am: Sheed begs the city to follow the rules; Pallas and Weimar will speak at 11:30 am

We’ll have a breakdown of the number of cases in Shepparton starting at 11:30 a.m., when Treasurer Tim Pallas faces the media this morning with Victorian Coronavirus Response Commander Jeroen Weimar.

I’ll give you a recap when that happens. Meanwhile, Shepparton District Independent Member Suzanna Sheed is begging the Shepparton community to follow COVID safety guidelines after the town was plunged into yet another lockdown and hit those breaking the rules.

Ms Sheed said that although the majority of the community followed safe practices for COVID, she was aware that some people were breaking the rules.

“Our community is strong and we are doing what it takes to help each other and stay healthy, but the recklessness of a few certainly plays a role in the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” he said. she declared.

“We only have to walk around our supermarkets and around the lake to see the blatant disregard for wearing masks, social distancing and meeting in groups.

“I also hear that close contacts of COVID-19 positive patients do not follow Ministry of Health protocols.

“This selfish behavior will cost lives.”

Meanwhile, in NSW, 10 deaths and 813 new cases were acquired today, while two new cases were found in Queensland.

UPDATE, 10 a.m .: High case count, Shepparton and Mooroopna exposure sites added

Victoria has recorded 1,488 cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours and two deaths.

It is not known how many of them are in Shepparton or the Victoria area.

The Greater Shepparton is now stranded for seven days which means there are only five reasons to leave your home and only a few reasons you can leave the Greater Shepparton area.

We also added new exhibition sites last night.

The bar at Mooroopna Golf Club is a Level 2 exhibition site, and anyone who was at the site on September 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. must be tested.

Pat and Tina Service Station was a Level 2 exhibit site from 8 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. on September 27.

The NIDO Early Learning Center also had another day added to its exhibit list, September 28. This date is a level 2 exhibition, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Two testing sites are open in Shepparton today, the Graham Street walk-in testing clinic, which is open until 4 p.m., and the Shepparton Showgrounds drive-through clinic, which is open until 4:45 p.m.

Yesterday, GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp urged anyone with even the slightest symptom to get tested as soon as they notice them.
