You only have 30 seconds to save the world. Sounds complicated? You are absolutely right! But other than that, it’s a lot of fun!
At Critical Reflex, we are happy to present Aeon Drive, a platform game in which you have to complete each level in just half a minute, which is offered to you on PS4 and PS5. If our protagonist, the space ranger Jackelyne, fails to reach her destination in time, then the quaint town of New Barcelona will be doomed.
The task is quite doable, but only if you know what you are doing. So we’ve put together these few tips so that when you launch the game, you have a better chance of saving the world on your first try. Or on the second. Or the third …

Practice
Each level of Aeon Drive is difficult to complete on the first try – most likely, 30 seconds won’t be enough to find the optimal route. But this is the most exciting part of the game!
Jackelyne is in a time loop, which means you can retry for as long as you want. A new attempt starts as soon as Jackelyne dies or the timer expires.

Teleportation
Jackelyne has a teleportation dagger – she can throw it in any direction and instantly move towards it. This is really useful technology: thanks to it, you can instantly fly over a huge hole or reach for the ceiling.
This ability is essential: Through teleportation, you can defeat a laser trap, which would otherwise kill you, or travel to an otherwise inaccessible location. Plus, by constantly teleporting, you can move around much faster (duh!) – keep in mind that each run is limited by a 30-second timer.

Control time
Did we already mention that you have to complete the level in 30 seconds? In fact, this is not entirely true. Jackelyne can control the time, so sometimes she cheats a bit by adding extra time to that limit.
But it’s not that simple: to get the precious extra seconds you’ll need to collect Time Capsules scattered throughout the level, and that can take, well, time! Also, these capsules need to be activated, and it’s not that easy when you’re constantly running around somewhere, jumping, teleporting, and fighting enemies. To sum up, in this race against time, you will only be able to win if you learn to control time itself!

Be careful
The streets of New Barcelona are patrolled by dangerous robots. Your first instinct would probably be to attack them. After all, Jackelyne is exceptionally good at dealing with them, thanks to her mighty sword. But that’s not always the best idea: those precious seconds spent in battle could probably cost you the whole attempt. Sometimes it’s wiser to bypass the robot or run away – it can save you time and don’t put you at extra risk.
Jackelyne has only one point of life: if an enemy robot manages to hit her, she will die immediately. It’s like in real life… Except that Jackelyne can start all over again as many times as she wants. But you should always act with caution, otherwise you will not be able to complete the level.

Don’t limit yourself
If you have failed several similar attempts in a row or the path is taking too long, it may be a good idea to try a different route. It will certainly be more exciting and effective than repeating the same actions over and over again.
Each level of Aeon Drive can be completed by taking multiple routes, some less obvious than others. The more familiar you are with the game, the more options you will see and the more efficient routes you can use.

Experience
If you managed to complete the level, congratulations! But that’s just the beginning: Aeon Drive is called “a speedrun platformer” for a reason.
Are you sure you have completed this level in the most efficient way? Maybe you could have taken shortcuts, maybe you should have teleported instead of running in a few places, or maybe you spent too much time overcoming some obstacles? Either way, there is always a reason to try again!
The game keeps track of your results with a leaderboard: you can always compare your performance to the results of other players. And maybe one day you will find yourself at the top, if you set yourself such a goal. Or just call your friends and battle them in PVP mode to find out who’s the fastest ranger in New Barcelona!
