According to Gates, who finalized his divorce from Melinda in August after the couple announced in May that they would separate after 27 years of marriage, he has spent much of the year online, the founder of the technology noting that he had “long periods without any face-to-face social interaction”.

“It was a strange and disorienting experience. My personal world has never felt smaller than over the past twelve months, ”he wrote.

Gates went on to share some of his accomplishments in 2021, before acknowledging that while he believes the work he has done over the past year is “by far the most interesting part of my year”, he is aware that “a lot of people are curious” about his divorce.

According to Gates, since their marriage ended, he and Melinda have continued to run their foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, together and have established “a good new pace of work.”

However, Gates also noted that the adjustment has not been easy and that he “cannot deny that it has been a year of great personal sadness for me.”

“Adapting to change is never easy no matter what it is,” he wrote, adding that he was “impressed by the resilience of my loved ones – especially my children – in this. hard time”.

Gates, who shares children Jennifer, 25, Rory, 22, and Phoebe, 19, with his ex-wife, then shared some of the other changes his family has experienced this year, such as Jennifer’s marriage to Nayel. Nassar in October, which the father-in-three describes as “the highlight of my year.”

According to Gates, last year also saw it become an empty nest, as he wrote that the couple’s youngest daughter graduated from high school and began her studies at Stanford University, while their son is also in school.

“The house is much quieter without a group of teenagers hanging out all the time,” he wrote. “I miss having them at home, although it’s easier to focus on reading a book or working these days. “

The billionaire tech entrepreneur concluded the blog post by expressing his hopes for a more positive year that is “much more settled than this one.”

“I’ve never been a grown-up on a New Year’s resolution. I don’t have a specific goal in mind for 2022 (although I guess I still have a few weeks to think about one). But what I hope is that next year will be a lot more settled than this, ”he wrote, adding that he hopes to find a new rhythm at home and keep spending time. to indulge in his leisure.

Gates ended the post by recalling that the world has “adjusted to great disruption before, and we will do it again,” before wishing his readers “a very happy holiday season.”
